Font Possibilities

The caption of a film poster is very important as people remember it and it can also give us an idea of what genre the film is and what the story-line will be based on.
In our group, we have brainstormed different captions to go underneath the title of the film. We decided to go with hard hitting, mysterious phrases. This allows the audience to understand it is a horror film but they will not entirely understand what it is about.

Death Lives Here
Fear your thoughts
Insanity is infectious
It's our turn to adapt

'Death lives here' is perfect for what the film portrays so we have chosen this caption. It's simple, short and easy to understand. It also exerts a horror/macabre feel.
The title for the film is the most important part of the whole film.

The title can give the audience an idea of the genre and also be more memorable for people. For instance, we all remember the 'James Bond' font and the 'Spiderman font'. The font will be an ongoing theme throughout our Film teaser trailer, Film magazine cover and Film poster making it more memorable for the viewers.

Film name possibilities

The infant
The last drive
Pram
Two Girls One Road

All four titles link to the theme of the trailer and story. The name of the film and the font will be sure to give the audience a clear idea of what genre our film is. We needed the title to be bold and stand out on the posters so these are the four fonts we chose to pick from. We ended up going the the 'Nightmare' font as its bold but fitting in with the theme of the woods as it looks like twigs put together to spell the words out. This font will also be used for the caption however the caption will be of a smaller size and possibly a different colour as it's less important.

For the first half of our trailer, we will use this song we found on the internet. It has a really scary feel, also the high pitch chimey sounds sound like a baby's mobile that hangs above their bed. Our film features a buggy and baby themed areas so it's relevant.

Our group have kept track of our filming dates and our location and who was with us, this included props and make-up, what scenes we were shooting and where.

Friday 19th October.

Team: Jade, Jess, Charlotte and Leanne.
Actors: Leanne, Jade and Charlotte
Props: Two Cars, Flashlight, A Pram, Tripod and Camera
Loacation: Bread and Cheese Lane
What we are Filming: All the parts of the trailer featuring the pram, the scenes of the car driving down the country roads, girl in the car, the killer in the bushes. Other various shots were filmed also.

The film session went really well and we got alot of the shots that we needed to do. It was quite hard getting the shots we wanted with the lighting as there not none except the headlights from the car's but it went really well.

Sunday 21st October

Team: Jade, Leanne, Jess - Charlottle left the course half way through filmimg so we had to do the majority of shots without her which left us behind the schedule that we planned.
Actors: Leanne, Jade and Connor replacing Charlotte
Props: Cars, lighting, blanket etc.
Location: Bread and cheese lane,woods.
What we filmed: We filmed the last part of the trailer which hopefully should make the audience want to come see the fast paced film.

The second filming session went alot better than the first as we knew how to use the camera better, what shots looked better with the actors and also we knew what the we wanted to shots to portray.
With charlotte gone it was alot harder to have only one person filming as the other two in the group were actors but we worked through it and the shots looked really nice.

Initial Ideas for our video

Sound effects & Music

For our film trailer, we used two different songs, one for the fast paced section - 'Mein Teil by Rammstein' and for the slow paced section, a song called 'Fear 2 Project Origin'. I have included both these songs on my blog. Also inbetween the final transition, we used a banging scream sound. The music and sound effects are important as the pace and style of a song really projects the ambience of current affairs in the trailer. It helps the audience understand how the mood changes throughout. The use of two completely different songs fits the conventions of a horror film trailer.

Special Effects

We will not use any special effects as we do not have the time or equiptment (eg, a green screen) but some of the editing tools we used gave a really special effect kind of feel. For example, one of the end shots is the whole shot in reverse. It looks really out of the ordinary.

Dialogue (If necessary)

Dialogue is not used in the majority of horror film trailers so we did not use it. It didn't fit the conventions of a horror trailer. We planned to use dialogue at the start however it may not not look right. I think we will make our decision to include dialogue when we are at the editing process.

Camera Angles

A variety of camera angles is key to a successful trailer, it keeps the target audience interested. We will use lots of shakey hand held shots as they were shots to help the audience understand how scared the main characters are. We will also use a tripod when filming 80% of our shots as it stabilizes our footage. We will use a variety of shots, lots of long shots, medium long shots and close ups of the protagonists.

Editing

The first half of our trailer will be slow paced with each shot fading into one another with quite a smooth feel. The captions will not be that scary to start with until the pace increases. The music will link with the feel of the footage and clip being played. To make this clear, we will edit the clips to the music, having the beats fall on new clips. We would also like to use the sped up effect at some point in our trailer to create panic and rushing.

Mise En Scene

We will use mise en scene to show the different between the characters. The two young girls will be wearing dresses and going out clothes to show where they have just been. The killer will be wearing 'normal' clothes (trainers, jeans etc) and a hooded cloak type. We will film down a country lane and in woods as it portrays being trapped and unable to escape. The branches are like gates so the characters cannot leave. Our most important prop is the pram we will use, it's a modern pram to fit with the period of the trailer. We will direct the girls to project their awkward body language in the trailer to show their fear and how out of place they feel on a dark night in the woods.

Target Audience

My target audience will be teenagers and adults ranging from the ages of 18 to 30. Teens younger may want to see the film however the rating will be 18! Our film trailer is advertising a film that could happen in real life. We wanted to go for something more realistic, such as 'The Descent' or 'Cabin' Fever' rather than a horror like 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' or the 'Saw' sega as realism means it's feasible and you can relate to the characters as their just normal people.
Our target audience will be interested in horror films, tattoos and going out at night.
My horror trailer features a few conventions of successful horror films/trailers i have seen before.
Firstly, it's based in the woods. Some of the most successful films are based in somewhere eerie such as the woods like 'Shrooms' and 'Cabin fever'.

GOTHS LOVE HORROR

Location, The Plot & The Characters

The Location
For our location, we would like to use somewhere like the photo above. A dark forest and a country lane. The twigs of all the winter trees look scary and can make you confused. They play tricks on the mind and are quite 'Trippy'. Our group brainstormed places we could film at which were the perfect location.

We thought of;

- Gramby Park private field. An empty field that links to a dark country road with lots of private houses. Not perfect as we do not want any houses in our shots.
- Cuffley woods. Only woods, no country lane, we are using a car in our shots so we need
- Bread and cheese lane. This is where we will shoot our film trailer. It has a very dark country road with tall trees either side, bushes and ditches. This will allow us to feature some very interesting Camera Angles and shots. The lane will be suitable for some driving shots of the two protagonists in the car 'having fun' before the incident happens.

The Plot

Our plot comes from an old 'Gypsy Tale'
Two girls will be playing our main protagonists. They have just left a party in the early hours of the morning and are driving home. They begin driving through a dark country lane still having fun, singing along to pop music.
All of a sudden, they stumble across a pram in the middle of the road. The girl who is driving the car stops, they look at eachother and discuss what to do.
They both leave the car and go and have a look at what's in the pram.
It is empty, they move the pram and continue their journey, a little shaken up but they ignore it and focus on getting home to their flat.
Everything turns when they notice the antagonist sitting in the back of the car, he must have got in when they left the car. The girls try to leave the car, they run, scream, cry etc to try and escape the antagonist.
This will be our film trailer.

The Characters

Two ordinary looking girls, in the video they will be wearing 'going out' clothes to fit the mise en scene of the trailer and to re establish where they have just been

Video for our horror film teaser trailer.

In our film trailer, we need a backing track to really create an intense feel. Looking at the conventions of other trailers, i noticed that most feature black metal music. We started looking through metal artists who's songs would be appropriate. The band that kept reappearing were german based metal band 'Rammstein'. Their videos are explicit, their beats are heavy and the lyrics are in German. They couldn't be more appropriate if they tried. All their songs give out a creepy, eerie, industrial feel. Here are three of their most 'sinister' songs. We need to eliminate two and the final one will be our trailer backing track.
